My computer screen goes blank but the hard drive is still running?

When I turn on the computer via the keyboard shortcut, after a 10 seconds as the screen loads to my desktop, the entire thing freezes. The pointer still moves when i move my mouse, but it can’t interact with anything on the desktop. 5 seconds later, the screen goes completely black, but the motor of the hard drive is still running! I hold the power button on the hardware to turn it off and reboot. It works fine after that. How do i fix this?

Try pressing Ctrl Alt Delete when it freezes, that should restart the boot sequence
